Welcome to the Coastal Chapter of SCORE.  Our chapter has been supporting the Charleston South Carolina Tri-County area since 1972.  We have over 40 active mentors with extensive business experience in diverse business skills.  Over 30% of our volunteer mentors are still operating their own businesses.  Their backgrounds are in retail, manufacturing, distribution, finance, human resources, insurance, transportation, legal, restaurant, export/import and many more.  Some of our mentors have international business experience.

These diverse backgrounds give us an opportunity to provide the maximum assistance to our client base.  We use a team approach, that provides the client the advantage of not one but all of our mentors to solve their business problems, whether it be to start a new or improve an existing business.

Our national organization partnering with the Gallop Poll indicated that the Coastal Chapter supported 160 small business startups in 2009 and assisted 100 existing business grow over that period of time.

Some of the notable successes on both the for-profit and non-profit spectrum we have helped start up over the last 35 years are as diverse as the background of our mentors.  Moo Roo Hand Bag, Copper Penny Clothing, Charleston Cookie Company, Appalachian Springs Bottled Water, Red Orchids China Bistro, Tiger Lilly Florist, Dorchester Habitat for Humanity Restore, Footlight Players, James Island Charter School, East Cooper Meals on Wheels and Darkness to Light to name just a few.
